Oil in Africa
Africa's oil is unique because it is mostly "sweet" crude, with a low sulphur content, which is easier and cheaper to refine into gasoline or other products. The United States is poised to take as much as 25 per cent of its oil from Africa within the next 10 years
Largest diamond in the world
The world's largest diamond was the Cullinan, found in South Africa in 1905. It weighed 3,106.75 carats uncut. It was cut into the Great Star of Africa, weighing 530.2 carats, the Lesser Star of Africa, which weighs 317.40 carats, and 104 other diamonds of nearly flawless colour and clarity. They now form part of the British crown jewels.
Nigerians are 'the best in bed' in the world
Nigerians have been rated as the most sexually active and satisfied in the world, according to a survey conducted by condom manufacturers, Durex. Nigerians came first on the issue of being “very good in bed”, Mexico and India came second and third respectively, but they were far behind the Nigerians who, it was claimed, have sex almost every minute. The Fichani Brothers
Tafadzwanashe and Tapiwanashe Fichani are two 22 year old Zimbabwean twins who are proud Africans. In Jan 2006 the brothers were arrested while wearing the nhembe loincloths on their daily walk to a shopping centre near their home in Harare. Prior to their arrest, the 22-year-old twins said that they had received a calling from God to give up their western clothing when they were living in the UK. The brothers said that those who criticized their decision were brainwashed by Western culture, as they were just going back to how things were before Europeans arrived in Africa.
Home of the human race
Among the scientific community, there is a consensus that Africa is the original home of the human race. Fossils and evidence have been found there that date back to seven million years ago. Proof of our evolutionary ancestors has also been found there, making this a hotbed of science and, essentially, the cradle of our civilization as we know it.
Fastest animals in the world
Four of the five fastest land animals live in Africa - the cheetah (70 mph), wildebeest, lion, and Thomson's gazelle (all about 50 mph).
Mobile phones in Africa
The use of mobile phones is increasing much faster in Africa than anywhere else in the world; 75 per cent of all telephones in Africa are mobile phones.
