DESCRIBED - stories from the U.K

Scribed is a national arts association for aspiring African Diaspora writers in the U.K. Under the umbrella of Scribed the Described project is a new virtual space for promoting writers of African Diaspora communities in Britain. It is designed to platform primarily emerging writers as well as established writers and to create a wealth of literature and a network of scribes. The objectives are to tell our stories; to come out of the margins and into the mainstream; and to share our gifts, talents and culture with the world through poetry, short fiction and memoirs and interviews on www.de.scrib-ed.com

The Africa Almanac website was founded in 2000 by Ugandan based Timothy N. Kalyegira. Its main objective is to create the world's largest source of concise information and statistical data on Africa. To present a "show of force", giving a prominent face to Africa on the world stage, especially in the new and rapidly growing computer-linked information network, the Internet. To publish news from and on Africa, emphasizing the best angle to the continent's developments, in direct contrast with most of the influential western news media, which tends to amplify a negative news perspective. We also have an African Story Database” that is an online, searchable, user-friendly collection of 572 African stories including folktales, historical fiction pieces, myths, parables, poems, prayers, riddles, song-proverbs and true stories. These African stories cover a wide variety of topics and occasions. The database is made of up stories containing over 140 different themes and sub-themes.

Recently a colleage and myself wrote an artcle for the September, 2009 Maryknoll Magazine called:
