Parliament, Accra, GHANA

I sometimes stay with my good friend Peter in Accra. Peter is a potter and owns a large factory that makes roof and floor tiles. I am a partner in this business, having first met Peter when I bought flowerpots from him for export to the USA.

I'm American, and live in New Jersey.

In Accra, on a quiet side street is a small store with plastic chairs out front. This is "Parliament" -- a gathering place where most evenings a group of men can be found, drinking a Fanta or a Star beer, and discussing events of the day.

When one travels it is easy to discover the tourist sites: they are listed in every book and on every website. I prefer these local places.
